Black History at Fort Negley

  • Fort Negley Park Center 1100 Fort Negley Boulevard Nashville, TN, 37203 United States (map)

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Kaylina Crawley for a powerful presentation:

“Give Us a Flag”: Black Participation in War Music and the Hope for Acceptance and Recognition in American Society During the Civil and World Wars.

This talk highlights the patriotism expressed in music by Black soldiers and their hope that courage and sacrifice would lead to respect and recognition. Featured works include Give Us a Flag, Marching Song of the First Arkansas Colored Regiment, and In Memoriam: The Colored Soldiers Who Died for Democracy by William Grant Still.
